Task Description:
Upon arrival, the site was in a state of chaos; there were many workers performing various tasks, and there wasn’t even enough space to set up another ladder—a detail worth mentioning, as everything required a great deal of waiting and patience.
The 3-meter ladder I brought proved insufficient, as the ceiling height was nearly 4 meters. Since three devices (a black box, an internal sensor, and an external sensor) needed to be installed at each end of the store, I checked the back area, but it was just as crowded—there was barely any room to move.
In the meantime, I checked in with the remote technicians, unpacked the devices, and took photographs of the store and the equipment to ensure the corresponding IP addresses were documented.
I began preparing the wiring for the boxes while waiting for a taller ladder to become available so I could carry out the work.
Once I was finally able to start, I ran into trouble identifying the specific cable prepared for this installation; I had to wait for the electrician to help me identify the wiring on each side.
After the wiring was identified, I installed the cables and the black box. I mounted the internal sensor as close as possible to both the exit and the access hatch, prepared the UTP cable for the external sensor, and connected it to the black box. I then repeated the entire process at the back of the store. Once that was finished, we flipped the circuit breakers to test the system and reported the status to the remote technicians for confirmation.
Next, I proceeded to install the external sensors, starting at the front of the store (handling the wiring and wall mounting). Afterward, I moved to the back to install the sensor near a display window, though I had to wait again because construction work was underway in that area.
As soon as I finished installing the external sensor at the back, I could see that the counting function was working, but I still notified the remote technicians to confirm. The external front sensor wasn’t registering any counts because there was a vinyl film on the glass blocking the view of the street; I had to cut and remove a section of it so that it would start counting.
The entire system’s functionality was verified by a remote technician, so I informed the client that I was packing up and heading out—but…
When I went to have the client sign off—around 6:30 PM—they decided to inspect the installation. They asked me to trim the cables for the external sensors, claiming they were too long, and to straighten the internal front sensor. That ended up taking some extra time. Afterward, they signed the work order, and I packed up and left.
